In the Fallen series this is considered a side book from
the series. It is not a "full" book. It is short and
contains four short stories that all have the same background. I
would recommend reading this book after reading Passion but
before Rapture. It takes place inside of Passion, but
actually having these things happen would have thrown the book off.
All four stories intertwine in some way or another.
Four love stories all intersect over the course of Valentines Day
in medieval England. Miles and Shelby have an unexpected love. Roland
learns a lesson in finding love and losing it. Arriane pays a price
for her love, which is so passionate it burns. Daniel and Luce spend
a night together for the first and last time, and it isn't like the
others.
Miles and Shelby are two of Luce's friends that end up going back
in time to find and help her out. They never get to Luce, always a
few second behind her. Well Daniel tells them to head back to the
present time and not to worry, where he is going they can't. So they
listen and leave, and in the meantime they get lost on the way back.
They end up in medieval England, the day before Valentines Day. They
run into Roland and ask for his help. Overall this was a very sweet
and romantic blossom of love between Miles and Shelby. They don't
even seem like two people who would end up together under normal
circumstances, but these are not normal times.
Next is Roland. After finding Miles and Shelby and agreeing to
help he goes off to do just that. On his way we find out some things
about Roland. He used to be madly in love with a human female from
that exact time. Of course he thinks about her and thinks about going
back to her. Just before he can, he finds out that she is wedded to
another man and is a mother. Roland could have easily killed the
husband and said it was a travesty of war. Instead he gets her
husband out of going to war. Joining the ranks he runs into Arriane
and finds that she too hasn't had that great of a time in England.
Roland's story was very bittersweet. He is head over heals in love
with this girl and knowing that it would never work with him being
immortal he leaves her. Couldn't get any worse, from this bittersweet
love right?
Wrong. Arriane's story is very sad but sweet in spots. Arriane
chose Heaven over Hell and her love Tess chose Hell over Heaven. They
could never be together properly. But nonetheless the try to be
together. It isn't as simple as it seems. Even when they are together
they are sad, knowing that in the end they have to leave each other.
As the reader you can tell they love each other very much. Tess makes
a mistake and thinks that she can get Arriane to join the ranks of
the fallen angles. This causes a rift and Arriane takes off, thinking
for good. Tess feeling terrible takes a starshot (the one thing that
can harm and leave marks on angels, and kill) and mutilates her
wings. Arriane is devastated, because of the starshot infecting
Tess's blood Arriane gets burn marks from where Tess's blood touches
her. I thought with this being around Valentines Day things would
have been more happy. Nope. Things are just sad in this story.
This past lifetime of Luce's is not in Passion, though it
does not differ very much from the others. Lucinda (past Luce) is
very sad. She thinks that once Daniel (past Daniel) had found out
that she is just a commoner he will not want to be with her. So she
tries to go on with her life. Our future Luce shows up and cleaves
(slips inside of her body without anyone noticing but future Luce
herself) with the past Luce. She goes the Valentines Day party and
has a good time. Cam shows up and tries to warn her of everything he
can without spilling the truth. After he leaves Daniel finally shows
up and they leave together to have some alone time. In the end
everyone is at the party and enjoying themselves as much as they can.
This last story wasn't as sad as the rest but it wasn't as happy as
Miles and Shelby's. I would have taken this story over Arriane's if I
was given the choice.
If you are expecting a happy Valentine's Day short stories, for
the most part they are not. What happy moments you are given you are
happy for because it lightens up the very sad mood. This is a boon in
the Fallen series and I wouldn't mind owning, even with the
sadness in it. There is a insert of Rapture in the end.

Passion by Lauren Kate
This is the third book in the Fallen series. I have a
review for the second book up already. I don't have one for the first
book because I read that before I started this blog.
Time after time Luce has died for Daniel. It doesn't matter what time in history they meet, after so long of knowing each other, Luce eventually goes up in flames. Daniel is left with a broken heart. Luce thinks that by going back in time she can figure out something to stop this horrible curse. She goes back and one after another she witnesses her time with Daniel for herself. Something or someone has to be able to help her. All of the angels, and Outcasts are trying to get to Luce, but none are as determined as Daniel. One slip and Luce can rewrite history and their love could disappear forever this time.
Passion picks up right after Torment leaves off. I liked this because there is no jump in time and it wouldn't make sense if there was. Luce jumps into an Announcer (windows to the past) and goes back again and again. After about the second or third past life that she sees she realizes that things happen the same way every time, just for different reasons. It's nice to read some of the past lives because they are interesting. You learn more about Cam which is nice because after the first two books in the series you are interested in him. I have a love hate turmoil going on with one character. He's this little, sassy gargoyle named Bill that comes along to help Luce travel around. Right away you know something is not right about him, but after sometime you grow to like (and even love him in my case) him and you want him to be good. He's hilarious and had me laughing a number of times. *SPOILER-ALERT* But in the end he ends up being one of the main bad guys. *SPOILER-ENDED* There weren't too many things that I liked about this book, but then again there weren't many things that I didn't like, and I will explain later.
One thing that I didn't like but saw coming was Bill. I wanted him to stay good for the whole book and become that little guy that pops out later in the last book to give words of wisdom and advice. Another thing that I didn't like was after a while things became very redundant with each life that Luce visited, and very little was different. I know that was the point, but for the reader we get it after about the second or third past life. After that I wanted to skip through things until Luce did realize something that went along with the curse. To me this book wasn't super exciting or intriguing except at the beginning and at the very end.
As I said there wasn't too much that I like or disliked about this book. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great. It was okay. I will be reading the last book, and doing a review on it. So far as of reading this third book, I wouldn't reread this series in order. I might reread the first book and maybe the last depending on how it goes. The first book is probably the only book that I would want to own. This is considered a "Teen" novel, and that is who I would recommend it to, teens.

Torment by Lauren Kate
This is the second book in the Fallen series. I did read
the first book long before I stated this review blog, but I will one
day reread it and do a review on it. *MINIRANT* My library, as much
as I love it, has this thing where half of a series will be on the
shelf and the other half will be gone, and never in order at that. I
will check beforehand on the website that the books are in. Going up
there the book will not be on the shelf. After seeing this I go and
talk to someone and come to find out if the book is not on the shelf
it isn't in the library. Even if the website says it is.....so if I
skip around in a series or read the first book, then don't read the
next book for quite a while that is the reason why. Annoying, yes. I
don't like it but it's the closest library to me. I'm sorry if this
bugs anyone, this is just what happens. *MINIRANT-ENDED*
Luce and Daniel have to be apart, as much as they want to be together the distance is needed. Daniel has to hunt down Outcasts-immortals who want to kill Luce. So for the time being Luce gets tucked away at a school in California called Shoreline. A special school for Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans, to help blend in a bit and get schooled properly. While at this school Luce learns what the Shadows really are, and how they can help her find out about her previous lives. With the more that Luce learns, the more she can't help but feel that Daniel isn't giving her the full picture on what is going on. But what is he not telling her?
Right away the prologue drew me in because here is Cam and Daniel, enemies in the previous book, working together to keep Luce safe. They hint toward a few things quite often and that is what kept me interested in the book. I wanted to know what was going to happen with those hints, and see how Kate unfolded them. There are a few bitter-sweet moments in the book, which helps keep the readers attention at times. I also like a number of the new character introduced, they remind me of a few people in the first book as well. Luce gets those protective friends again, and after a little bit she can feel somewhat okay about being at this new school. I liked that with Daniel being away Luce is able to question all of the aspects of her life, including her past ones. Daniel has been very hush-hush about them and only letting bits and pieces be known to Luce, *SPOILER-ALERT* this puts a little wrinkle in their relationship, and even a new (but small) love interest for Luce comes along at Shoreline.*SPOILER-ENDED* I liked the new threat from the Outcasts, and I loved a few spoken lines at the end of the book. It really makes the reader want to get the next book and see what exactly they meant, and what is going to happen with this new information.
That being said, what handful of things that happened throughout the book are about the most interesting things. I did find myself wanting to skip ahead to parts that were more exciting then what I was reading. Torment is a little on the wordier side, but it isn't as bad as a few other books. Another thing that I wasn't too happy about was in the little insert on the front flap of the book, it is hinted toward Luce being meant for someone else. After reading the book I wasn't quite sure what Kate was trying to get at with that. Was Luce meant to free people? Was Luce meant to love someone else? Was Luce meant to be someone else? All three of these things were hinted toward throughout the book. Maybe this is something that is better explained in the third book. Other then my library literally taking forever to get this book back on the shelf, I don't have anything else to complain about.
For it being a while since I last read the first book, I wasn't really confused as to what was going on. Yes, I did remember a few of the major details like this being a book about angels and humans, and a few fights, and main characters. But if someone else where to start this series on the second book they wouldn't have that hard of a time understanding what is going on. I only had a few things to not like about the book and a whole mess of things to like and love. I do want to own this series as of thus far. That could change as I read the third and fourth book, yes I will do that eventually.
