Defying Destiny by Kylie Price

WHY IN THE WORLD DID I LET MYSELF TAKE SO LONG TO READ THIS BOOK?? I don't know but hey, I read it now! This is the second book in the Trinity series by Price, I do have the first book reviewed and I will be reviewing the third book. Price has an adult genre book out as well if the YA book isn't your cup of tea. I do have to thank Price, she gave the ebook to me for free, a long time ago. Thank you so much Kylie, you're seriously the best <3 And I suck and take forever to put up reviews. I need to get back in the swing of things.



Everything is changing. Some things really quickly and others not quick enough. Limits are pushed and bonds are formed or broken. Doubt can be poisonous and Trinity is slowly being infected from it. If she can get over the doubt and trust herself, she might be able to see things clearly. She can either defy what fate is trying to push her towards or continue. Which will it be?

I like that this second book picked up almost right after the first. Seeing as it's been a while since I read the first there wasn't much recap, which was good and bad. Good, because it was like picking up a new book and jumping into something awesome. Bad, because it took me a little longer to piece things together but I really didn't mind it. I laughed quite a few times and I think my favorite part was when Trinity got all excited to be able to buy her own underwear. I get excited for new underwear too!! I know I was looking for a breakdown from Trinity, as I explain in the first book review. Well she did have that breakdown but got back up for the most part. I also liked that there was more of Garth, I don't know why but I really connected with him in the first book, and I did see the surprise with him coming. I liked the ebook format because it was easy to pull up the Kindle app on my phone and read. That's all I liked about the ebook format.

Lets just get the ebook dislikes out of the way. I didn't like that I didn't have a physical book to read but I will buy one eventually. I was reading off of a tiny screen and had to frequently stop because my eyes started to hurt. Even with reading books on a computer screen I still have to stop. I couldn't tell how far along I was because half of the time when I tried to get the page count to come up it didn't. Now things I didn't like about the book, it went by really quickly. I feel like I could have finished it in about a day if I really was able to sit down and read it. There was only a few spots that I felt like they dragged on but really it wasn't much.

I'd love to have this book in print and eventually I will buy it. I'm not a fan of ebooks but I do like the format. I don't ever see myself fully committing to them because I love my print books. I do see myself rereading Defying Destiny, I will read the next book, and I'm not saying that because Kylie gave me both books. I'd love to read anything from Kylie and I know I would have still if I never entered the Goodreads giveaway. I recommend her books to everyone.

Sweet Seduction by Maya Banks

Way to go me! This review was supposed to post a while ago but it never did. This is the third book in the Sweet series by Banks and I do have the second book reviewed. I have finally found the first book! I got it from my local used book store and snatched it up, so when I can I will be reading and reviewing that. Will I be reading the rest of the series? I don't know yet. I'll get into that later. I do have a video review coming soon so watch out for that link. Here's the video!



Julie had eyes for one guy but it seemed like he was more infatuated with ignoring her. She loved the fact that she was able to get paid for oiling him up and rubbing him down. When you are a salon owner there are some perks. Giving Nathan his last rub down with a little extra thrown in, she plans to move on. Thing is Nathan wasn't oblivious to Julie, it was the exact opposite. When he finds out she is going to let someone else to fulfil her fantasies, he decides to put a stop to that and nail her down. Now there is just trying to figure out how to do that.

Here is yet another book that made me laugh, I am not complaining either. I really needed the laughs. I got a sneak peak at what the first book held, and some of the things that went down. Though very little is recapped and little is spoiled. So a person could read the books by themselves and be fine. Julie made me laugh the most, while Faith and Nathan are tied for second. I did very much like the hints as to the next book. The three main girls are done now and it has to continue with someone and Banks was sure to shed some light on who it is. The ending didn't annoy me but I did have a problem with it.

I didn't like that it was "guy gets the girl, the end." I am extremely happy that they didn't break up and then get back together like I ranted in Sweet Persuasion. Still, guy gets the girl, done. This book wasn't anything crazy special. I liked it because it made me laugh, but I don't see myself wanting to reread it over and over. There were a few parts I wanted to skip because it was a bit dull but the whole book can't be crazy from start to finish, right? I don't know if I want to continue the series because it seems that it's the same story, just different characters and change a few things. That doesn't keep me interested.

This is not something I would recommend for a younger audience. There is sex from beginning to end, it is intertwined in the story. If that upsets you, this isn't for you. It is by no means a bad book I did enjoy it quite a bit, but like I said before, I don't see that I will be reaching for it anytime in the future. As for owning it, I know where I can get it for a steal of a price I might get it the next time I am there.

Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

I've been looking at this series for a while now. I have wanted to read them because I have only read YA from Mead before. I know I need to finish the Vampire Academy series, which I will. Mead has quite a few series out and this is the first book in the Georgia Kincaid series. If this series doesn't appeal to you, maybe something else will. I want to continue reading this series, I really liked this book.


Being a Succubus isn't as cracked up as it seems. Besides the fact that they can be what ever they want, Georgina's life as one isn't the easiest. Georgina can't get close to a human without sucking part of their life away. So having a relationship isn't easy either. Her job makes up for something's, she works at a local bookstore. Which means she has access to her favorite author's books; Seth Mortensen. She can dream about him all she wants but other things are brewing. There are some creatures that neither heaven nor hell will claim, and they are stirring up more than enough trouble for the demon network in Seattle.

I laughed so much when I read this book. The quick whit from Georgina, and the smart remarks from everyone else was really entertaining. I made sure to pay attention when certain characters where in the picture because they normally had something funny to say. I want to more about Georgina, I want more from her early succubus days, and how she transitioned from human to succubus. I did like most all of the characters, I liked to dislike Helena. I have a feeling that I know where Georgina and Seth's relationship is going and it will either be a good response or a bad one from me, depending on how Mead handles it. I also want to see more from Seth's character. Things got really interesting at the end with Georgina and Seth.

I really don't remember not liking anything from Succubus Blues. I wish I could have read more of it in one sitting than I was able to do. The only thing I am questioning is if Roman is going to remain that big thing all through the series. I don't know how I will like that if he does, but again it all depends on how Mean has handled it. I have not read the other books summaries, I don't want to spoil anything for myself. I did see Roman being special in some way coming, and once certain factors where revealed I pretty much knew it, but it was pretty close to the end so it wasn't too bad.

This was a very easy read for me, like I said I just wish I could have read more when I was able to read it. I don't think I got everything from what little I could read, and that is why it took me so long to get this review up. I do recommend this book to a more mature audience, there are a few sexual encounters that parents may not find suitable for the younger ones. I would like to own this book, but the rest of the series remains to be seen.

Oblivion by Kelly Creagh

The third and final book in the Nevermore trilogy, Oblivion sure does go out with a bang. I do have reviews for the first two books Nevermore, and Enshadowed already up. I really do hope that Creagh starts mentioning something more coming from her. For the most part I enjoy her writing. To be honest I finished this book a little while ago but I haven't had enough time to even think about reviewing it. So I am making time now!



Varen's still in the dream world, and Isobel is starting to lose hope. She doesn't want to go back to the dream world where she had a near death experience last time. But the nightmares don't stop and they are starting to bleed even more into reality. She is faced with either going back and getting Varen or letting reality be destroyed. It won't be easy bringing him back if she can, a new loss and Lilith willing to do anything to keep him are all against her. It's all or nothing in this ending to the trilogy.

Oh my goodness there is finally some action! I was sorely disappointed with the last book because there wasn't much action. Oblivion made up for that. Varen was pretty much all throughout the book as was different aspects of Edgar Allen Poe. I really liked reading more about the dream world, it had me hooked all through the book. One of the last few chapters was very cruel when I thought someone was going to be dead. I loved that part once I got past it though. I did like to see that Isobel still had the determination to get Varen back, she was losing hope but she didn't completely. The ending was the best part of the book just because of  all the things that took place. I can't pinpoint one part that I liked more.

Now for the one thing I didn't like, there were only a few spots that dragged on a bit. Though once they were done there was action again. I am still more upset that the second book in the trilogy lacked so much. I definitely feel as though Creagh could have done something about it, but it's her book, she can do what she wants with it.

I greatly enjoyed this book. I finished it a some time ago and I want to reread it. I can for sure say that I would love to own this book, along with the first one. I recommend this book and this trilogy to everyone, young and "old". You definitely don't have to be a Poe lover to read these books. It is safe for a younger reader who is looking for something that is longer in length but not quite Harry Potter. I'm sorry it's been over a month since I last put a review up, I've been crazy busy. I have books to review, just no time to type the review out.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

First book in the If I Stay duology, I think just about everyone knows about these two books because of the movie. The second book is called Where She Went. The book itself was released in 2009 and gained lots of popularity when the movie was made. I remember seeing this book in high school but I was too preoccupied with other, longer books. Now I'm glad that I have read it.



Mia had life pretty much good. She has an amazingly supportive family, she's talented and smart. Then it all changes with a simple freak accident. Now she has to decide if she wants to stay or move on with her life. The hardest choice she had to make before was moving away and perusing her passion for music or staying with her boyfriend. This new choice isn't that simple, nor going to be easy to make.

This is a pretty small book I finished it relatively quickly. Had I of been able to sit down and read this nonstop I think I would have finished it in less than a day. I don't want to spoil anything so I will try to keep my likes pretty vague (as usual). I laughed a few times and when I did, I giggled about it even afterwards. Like when Mia and Kim got into a fight. Speaking of Kim, I really enjoyed her message of "family doesn't always mean related to you by blood". Way too many people think this and get disillusioned when their blood-family doesn't end up being there for them. Though I can understand why Mia would think this, her family was so close that facing the reality of possibly spending the rest of her life without them would be saddening. I liked reading about that closeness, it's not often that you see a family that close in real life. I also liked the simplicity of the story. It wasn't full of twists, turns, and hints about what's to come and all the rest.

As for things I didn't like, one is how simple the story was. Everyone swore that they cried and couldn't believe that they were so deeply moved. I wasn't. *SPOILER-ALERT* I knew that everyone was going to have to die for Mia to be faced with the choice of living or moving on.*SPOILER-ENDED* Not just one or two people but all. I didn't cry, I've lost friends to tragic things like illnesses, car crashes, and suicide. After a while you are just content to read and know that it isn't real. Also I don't see where the hype from this book came from. I see how it can be moving for some people really, and the story was nice but other than that it was just 'okay' to me. But that ending! How could you Forman! A dreaded cliffhanger!!!

Even with everything that I didn't like I still recommend this book to those that are younger. I definitely feel as though they would get more out of the story than those of us who have already experienced loss. I don't know when I will be reading the second book. I'm not in a rush to read it, just like I am not in a rush to own this book. If I find it for a good price, I'll take it. I wan to do a book to movie comparison but I don't know how I would do it. If it happens you guys will now.

Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh

This is the second book in the Nevermore trilogy. I do have the first book Nevermore reviewed, it's on the rougher side of a review but it's still mine. I plan on reading the third book Oblivion however, I don't know when I will be getting to it, I hope soon though. As far as I can find there hasn't been any talk of Creagh coming out with anything else since Oblivion was published. This could very well change at a moments notice and I sure hope it does!



Varen is still gone in the dreamworld, Isobel is in the real world where she is experiencing very real nightmares and visions. Her only hope comes from a grave in Baltimore, where Edgar Allen Poe is buried. On the morning of his birthday a mysterious person visits the grave, he is known as the "Poe Toaster". Whomever it is, they know how to get to the other world, and Isobel needs their help. Unfortunately there are other hurtles she must get over before she can get to him. Varen's being torn in two, toward an evil so powerful and also by Isobel. Though by time she gets to him, he is no longer the same Varen she knows.

Poe! Again, like the last book I loved that Poe's work was incorporated. I am a huge fan of Poe and as of thus far I do not think Creagh did a bad job with his work. I would've liked to have seen more, but this book was more about Isobel trying to figure out how to get to Varen, and get him back into the real world. I really loved the suspense leading up to Poe's birthdate in the first part of the book. I also liked the aspect of the dream world being more in the book. I like the features of that world and how things mirror the real, but at the same time changes within seconds. I did love two characters in particular, Gwen and Danny. Gwen because without her being sassy and sarcastic I don't think I would have read the book in it's entirety. Danny made me smile he knew something was wrong, didn't know how to approach it, but still made it known that he loved his sister. People don't think that kids understand what is going on around them, but some really do.

If you're looking for Varen to be in the book, well I have bad news for you. He really isn't at all. The ending is an excellent draw in for the final book however, if you are like me and wanted to get some action from Varen, you'll be disappointed. In general I was disappointed with the last half of the book. Things were built up to and I was expecting something so much more than the little stint in the other world. By time the ending of the book came I was left with the feeling of "that's it? That's all that this lead up to?" It was more of Isobel hemming and hawing until Poe's birthday. I definitely think that if I wouldn't have waited so long to read Enshadowed I would have seen a lot more of the book as dull. Dare I hint that this had Middle Book Syndrome...? I will highly unhappy if the final book is like this one, and everything built up to and then not properly executed.

I'm glad I didn't get to read this book right after the last one because I would have been more disappointed in the book. I definitely wouldn't rush out and buy this book, I want the first book more than this one. I hope that the last book is a lot better, I'm going to try and get to it a little quickly but I don't think I will be able to because I work a lot this week, and I am already reading another book. I still recommend this to people of all ages, even those who are on the younger side and like big books.

Deadly Little Lies by Laurie Faria Stolarz

Second book in the Touch series I do have the first book Deadly Little Secret, reviewed. The next book in the series is Deadly Little Games. Stolarz does have a number of other books out, so if this series isn't your cup of tea, she might have something else that is.

It was only last fall when Camila fell for Ben and found out that he has the gift of psychometry. Though as things began to get good, Bed up and leaves. Heartbroken Camila spends month researching psychometry and even experiences a few spells herself. Wondering if this is something that can be passed from one person to the next, she tries to tell Ben once he does come back but it's no use. She can't get him to listen long enough. Things start to happen though, almost like a repeat from last year. Warning and threats begin to pop up like last time. In the midst of all of this, deciding to move on Camila starts seeing a new guy in town named Adam. He seems to be less complicated then Ben, but a love triangle forms. Ben's past starts to reveal itself and Adam is tangled in it too. Someone is lying but no one will say who.

Yet another book where I don't have that many likes. I'm in a rut lately...but here we go. I liked that Camila tried to effectively cut things off with Ben seeing as they were no longer "together". She knew that it wasn't good to try and keep things at a "friend" level when they had such a heated connection. Sometimes it's better to cut things off completely because it means that both people will be able to heal. I'm interested to see how this next book plays out with Adam. This time around I really enjoyed Kimmie and Wes more, they had me laughing a number of times. I think I'm beginning to like them more than Camila. I loved the snippets from Alexia, it took me a while to figure out who she was. Mainly because I forgot, but once I did I really enjoyed those parts the most. *SPOILER-ALERT* I did see the psychometry being hereditary-thing coming but I was waiting to see who else has or had it in the family.*SPOILER-ENDED* For the last thing that I liked, Stolarz showed with Alexia that how a parent acts toward a child really does affect them. Be it good or bad it has an affect and after so long the child may turn their attitude around completely because of this.

Now for the dislikes...I completely saw Debbie coming. I mean she hates Ben. Granted, yes, the whole school pretty much does but she realllly hates him. So why not make his life hell? I did feel as though I was rereading the first book with some change ups and no kidnapping. I seriously hope that wasn't the point because it killed the mood of the book for me. Also the love triangle, saw that one coming too, and YA novels have enough of the love triangles going on. It's time for authors to switch things up with that. I probably would have guessed a good chunk of the book had I of read this book closer to the last book. The "action" that was being lead up to was a little over a page and then done. There was more talking than anything. I think I liked the tussle between Ben and Adam a lot more. Though this book wasn't dull, it wasn't really anything spectacular either.

I am not completely discouraged from reading the third book, but if things don't pick up I don't know about the rest of the series. I do recommend this book to others but be warned that I don't know if more advanced readers will enjoy it as much as the younger ones, but I could be wrong. I would like to own the first book, but not so much this one. Depending on how the next books in the series go, it will really make my mind up if this is one of those series I want to own just a few of the books or the whole series.

Racheal Awakened by Robin A. Dilks

To start I won this book free through a Goodreads giveaway*. This is the first book in the Daughters of Lilith series. There is a second book set to be published sometime soon.

(I like the way this book is summarized so I am going to use what is on the back.)

I genuinely enjoyed reading Racheal Awakened and I am not saying that because I won it, I mean it. I was worried about the size of this book but Dilks did a great job of keeping me interested between Rachael's, and Lilith's point of view. I'm not a huge religious person but I loved the twist with everything "religious" about this book, it really kept my attention and I wanted to see what else had a twist to it. As always, I did laugh a number of times especially at the end when Gunny the dog was introduced. I thought that was a really nice touch. Another thing that I liked was that Racheal overcame her attack (see the trigger warning just below my dislikes). She allowed herself time to grieve but she didn't allow it to take over her life completely. Yes, I know it is hard to cope with something super serious that happened but I believe that you are allowed to grieve, just try not to allow that grief to take over completely for a very long time.

I only have a couple of dislikes surprisingly and they really aren't dislikes. One being that it was so short, if someone really wanted to they could finish it in one day. Along with this whereas things where fast paced, I would have liked a little more. I won't knock it too much though because there are times when we all want a nice quick and interesting read and I definitely classify Racheal Awakened as a quick and interesting read.

I do have to put a trigger warning with Racheal Awakened. I did see it coming when I read Racheal's little blurb on the back of the book, but I don't know if others will catch it. The trigger warning is rape, it's about a page in length. It's not nearly as bad as some other books, it could be a great deal worse and it could have been a lot more detailed then it was. With that being said I do think that people who are more squeamish when it comes to rape can handle this book no problem.

I didn't know what to expect with Dilks book but I am really glad that I did get this. I'm very interested to see how the next book plays out especially between Lucifer and Lilith. I do think the book is a little on the short side but I don't have very many books that are small that are in my collection. Like I said though I do enjoy the shorter-ness of this book. I wouldn't exactly recommend this for a younger reader but a more mature audience. Even with my small amount of "dislikes" I still really enjoyed Racheal Awakened.

Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead

Fifth book in the Vampire Academy series, I do have the fourth book reviewed. I do explain in that why I do not have the first three books up. Maybe one day I will reread them and also review them. There is one more book for this series, and eventually I will get around to reading it. Mead has quite a number of other books out, including a series called the Bloodlines series and it sort of goes along with the Vampire Academy. (Yes, there is a reason why I didn't mention the movie, I'm pretending it didn't happen.)

A heartbroken Rose returns to St. Vladimir's after a long and tiring trip to Siberia. She returns back to Lissa, and soon graduation takes place. The girls are ready for their life to begin outside of the academy's grip. Though even with that excitement looming there is almost always something that reminds Rose of Dimitri and she feels the heartache all over again. He's out there, and she knows it. Rose failed to kill him when she had the chance, Dimitri tasted her blood and now he's hunting her. She knows that if she doesn't join him as a Strigoi he will silencer her forever. But Rose won't give up hope, there are rumors and she must decide who matters most to her because of them. Risk everything and lose it all, or gain from it, is one of the hardest decisions she must make.

Rose is still my favorite character, though she annoyed me this book which I will get into in the next paragraph. Abe is creeping up in second place for favorites now. Rose was sassy and it had me laughing along with Adrian and him being himself. Speaking of Rose and Adrian, I was really happy to see that Rose apologized to him for certain things. She wasn't above apologizing when she knew she was in the wrong. I think more people need to be like this, and not so full of themselves. Apologizing to someone when you have done wrong isn't bad, if anything it can pave the way for making things better between the people. I liked that there was action pretty much throughout the book. It kind-of had to be that way because I probably wouldn't have finished Spirit Bound. The main problem was "solved" about half way through the book, so if there wasn't any action through the rest of the it I would have been disappointed. There where breaks long enough to process what just happened but soon after things would start back up again. Now, a lot of you know that I loath cliffhanger endings. This one however, when I finished reading the last line, it felt right. I don't know how I would have taken any other ending.

As I said before Rose annoyed me. Even though both she and Adrian knew that Rose wasn't over Dimitri, they still decided to try out a relationship together. This personally made me want to smack them both. Rose and Adrian should have stayed close friends (no I don't mean that in a sexual way unless they wanted that mutually) and waited until Rose was either over Dimitri or knew fully that she wouldn't be able to be with him. Let your heart heal before you try to jump into another relationship with someone, this keeps you from being hurt again and hurting the other person. I could go on about this but I won't. The other thing that bothered me was Adrian's family was being nice to Rose, including Tatiana. This didn't sit well with me, I almost feel as though Rose is being set up. I wouldn't have been rude, but I wouldn't let my guard down either. Also, with everyone being nice how did this not raise a number of red flags with Rose? The last thing that bugged me, I mentioned before, is the big issue for the book was "over" half way through the book, because of this I knew something big had to happen to be able to fill a second book. This thing had to be something other than Dimitri being a Strigoi. So I wasn't surprised when that big event was revealed.

I'm still a big fan of this series and I really look forward to reading Bloodlines down the way. I didn't realize that its been 5 years since this book came out, I was genuinely baffled when I saw that. I do recommend this book to readers of all ages, and not just teens. I will put a warning out for younger readers, there are a couple of heated scenes but they don't go far at all. This is my personal copy, I rescued it from my library on one of their book sale days. I did have problems with Spirit Bound but I still very much enjoyed reading it. I do plan to read the last book eventually but I will not start Bloodlines until I do, so that should lit a fire under me to get on it.....sometime in the future.

The Queen of Zombie Hearts by Gena Showalter

Third book in the White Rabbit Chronicles I do have book one and book two reviewed, feel free to check them out if you want. Showalter was originally going to end the chronicles with The Queen of Zombie Hearts but things have changed and there will be another book. The next book will be called A Mad Zombie Party and as of now it is set to be released later this year. I don't think I will be reading that one as soon as it comes out, I will probably wait a while before I do. There is another book out that fits between book one and book two called Cole...Meet Ali. If you want to read that just click and it will take you to Showalter's site where you can read it.

The worst is behind the slayers, or so they think. Ali is ready to go a step further with her boyfriend Cole Holland. Who also happens to be the leader of the zombie slayers. Everything was going good until Anima Industries lands a sneak attack. They are the ones controlling the zombies, and they are the reason why four of Ali's friends get killed. Ali realizes that people can be the most dangerous things, sometimes worse than monsters themselves. What's even worse is that this is only the beginning. Trying to overcome what just happened the remaining slayers gear up for war, and Ali finds that she can control the zombies too. She learns that she isn't who she thinks she is, along with so much more. She's connected to the woman who killed, and turned Cole's mother. More and more secrets come out into the open, and a relationship can only endure so much. Ali will find that taking down Anima is going to be harder than she thought and she just might have to sacrifice herself to do it.

I didn't have too many likes this time around. Zombie Hearts was an okay book, but I really had more problems with it. What I did like however was the action that was all throughout the book. There where down moments, but they were not down for very long. Things got going almost right away, and it just kept going from there. I laughed almost the whole way through the book, between Ali, Kat, Gavin, and everyone else there was an abundance of sass everywhere. The fact that Showalter kept me laughing is about the only reason why I didn't put this book down and not finish. *SEMI-SPOILER-ALERT* I will commend Showalter, she knows that her fan base is mainly younger readers. Things get heated with Cole and Ali, and Showalter promoted safe sex. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Safe sex needs to be promoted, because teens are going to be teens (not saying all teens will be teens but you get it).*SEMI-SPOILER-ENDED*

I'm on the fence about this next point, if you are sensitive and have not a clue about what happens in this book skip this little blurb and go to my dislikes (the very next paragraph). As soon as I read that four people where going to die, I knew exactly who they where. Along with the other. It wasn't really a big surprise to me, the four weren't huge characters. I did feel a touch of heartache, but it was because I was hoping to get a little more from them.

I had a lot of annoyances with this book, but I will cut them down to the ones that bugged me the most. The first one was the hints throughout the book specifically the ones on page 63 and 76. *SPOILER-ALERT* I knew that Ali was adopted before anything happened because of these two hints. I do think there was hints in the first two books but I don't quite remember them being so prominent. I also knew that Kat was going to die, just not the way that she did.*SPOILER-ENDED* The next one that bugged me was Ali's constant "OMG Cole is so hot, OMG Cole is the best, OMG Cole this, OMG Cole that" on just about every other page. I literally felt like Ali was 12 with her first crush and not a young adult. If I could have reached into the book and shaken her I would have. I liked Cole before, but not anymore. After commending Showalter, I do have to say that personally I do not think it is okay to tattoo your boyfriend/girlfriends name on you. Especially at a very young age, things happen and people change. I have seen more often than not that after getting a persons name tattooed on them, they split. Now they have a constant reminder of the other person until they get enough money to cover it up. Tattoo's are permanent unless you want to shell out a lot of money. Lastly, if the slayers knew that Anima was planning something (but not necessarily when per say) I would have never gotten as relaxed as they did. That's a big no-no, you do not get all relaxed when you know the enemy is still very much alive and kicking.

If I wasn't kept laughing from the sassiness I would have not finished The Queen of Zombie Hearts. I really was disappointed with this book. I kept hoping that things would turn around but they didn't. I didn't even list everything that I had a problem with because no one would have bothered to read a huge whining post. I know my opinion is one of the less popular ones, but this is what I think nonetheless. I hope that I like the next book more. I do recommend this book, only because I know there are people out there who are going to love the book and that's great.

The Farm by Emily McKay

First book in the Farm trilogy, I will try to get my hands on the other three books. One of the three books is a novella that took place before this first book did. If I can't get the others to read, I will carry on reading what ever I happen to pick up as usual. The last book was published in 2014 and from reading a few things I think it might be safe to say that it is the last book. McKay does have a number of other books published and this trilogy looks to be her first go at YA novels.

In the Before life was completely different. There weren't any holding pens for young people, there weren't any blood thirsty monsters called Ticks devouring humans. The world was as normal as it could get. Then the Ticks came everything changed, now twins Lily and Mel are stuck at the Farm. Mel is autistic and it comes in handy quite a bit. Mel noticed that there is a portion of the electrical fence that is off every night. Lily takes this as their ticket out, though it won't be easy it is the only chance they have. Or so they think. Carter is a classmate of Lily's from the Before, and he has managed to stay alive this whole time. He has very valuable knowledge about life outside the Farm. Much like everyone else he has his own agenda, he also knows that there is a driving force behind the Ticks and it is a dangerous one.

I very much like how McKay had this apocalypse come about, it is a concept that I don't dismiss readily. The Ticks reminded me a little of The Strain but there are "normal" vampires running around too. I do like the idea of how things may end up going back in favor for the humans (possibly) because of the abductura and their special abilities with the Ticks. I really enjoyed that McKay didn't make Carter and Lily get together in this first book. It was nice not having the main characters all over each other constantly because they are together. Plus it saves me from going on a tangent that this leads to the cliché of the second book being the break up of the relationship. I loved that the action was pretty much nonstop from the beginning, it really kept the pace of the book up. When things did calm a bit I would catch myself wondering what was going to happen next and what was coming. I wasn't drawn to Carter and Lily, but Mel and Sebastian actually. I really wanted to see more interactions from them but obviously it was more about Lily and Carter in this book. I do believe that the next books might have more of Mel and Sebastian in them which I look forward too.

I did have a couple of problems with The Farm. It was a very good book, well written, very descriptive, and I didn't want to stop reading. There was action throughout the book, but when it came to the end and the "big action" that was being built up to, I felt that it lacked very much. Everything was literally over within a couple of pages. I know I shouldn't be too harsh but it bugs me when this big event for the end of the book just flops. I also didn't like how I can tell what relationships are going to ensue throughout the series. For example Carter and Lily, Sebastian and Mel. I wouldn't be surprised to see McKay switch them up too. I still have high hopes for the trilogy, I just hope this isn't going to be a let down in the end like another trilogy I finished up with not too long ago.

The Farm wasn't a complete disappointment, but I was hoping for more when it came to the end. I can see "adults" liking this book, along with young adults. I don't see a problem with a younger reader having at this either. There is talk of sex and subtle hints of rape but it's nothing compared to some other books out there. I definitely don't see the younger readers being traumatized over The Farm. Owning this book would be nice but I would most likely read the rest of the books before I make a definite decision on it. I can see myself reread this a couple of times though they would be spaced out quite a bit. As usual what I did happen to mention is not everything that happened. If you think you may like to read this book, I say go for it.

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

This is Fitzpatrick's fifth book, her other four belong to the Hush, Hush saga. I have read the first three books but not the final yet. I may reread the books before I read the last book seeing as it has been a while since I last read them. I don't know if this book will be a stand-alone, but with the way it ended I wouldn't be surprised. Fitzpatrick does have another book coming out late this year called Dangerous Lies and from what I can tell it doesn't have anything to do with this one.

Ready to test her skills and training Britt is getting ready to backpack the Teton Range. What she isn't ready for is her ex-boyfriend to tag along. She still thinks about him, and hasn't seen him for a while. Though before she allows herself to think about her feelings for Calvin, a blizzard forces her to find refuge in a remote cabin. It's two very handsome occupants though, are fugitives and they take her hostage. She barters for her life and agrees to help get them off of the mountain. Britt knows she needs to stay alive long enough for Calvin to come find her. She finds out about a few murders that happened on the mountain and realizes that this may make her the next one. Everyone's hiding something, Mason, one of the captors, is hiding something big. And what's with his kindness?

From the moment I began Black Ice I couldn't stop reading. The beginning started off with a bang and I didn't know what to think. There's action pretty much from the time the book starts to the end. Fitzpatrick really captured my attention and held it the whole time. I didn't have a problem with wanting to read anything else, I just wanted to read Black Ice the whole time. Also when it ended, I really was tempted to start all over and read it again. Fitzpatrick definitely gets brownie points from me for having Britt correct Korbie on the fact that Frankenstein is not the monster but in fact the Doctor. I thought I had it all figured out part of the way through the book, but I was dead wrong. I didn't actually figure anything out until just before it was announced or made clear. There were smaller details that I did figure out but every small detail I did put together I wanted to know more. This didn't end with a cliffhanger but ended in a way that I was happy with. As far as I feel anything that could have been taken as a loose end was tied up.

Really I have not a problem with Black Ice, the action was nonstop throughout the book. I didn't predict anything really until the last second, and when the book finished I was genuinely upset that it didn't go on. I really would love a second book with Britt and Jude but I doubt that would happen. Pretty much everything was said in this book, the most I can see happening is Jude getting his own backstory book but again, I doubt that will happen. I was concerned with the beginning, because lots of things can happen in that situation and I am glad that a number of them didn't happen.

I recommend this book to everyone. Not just teens, everyone. I can see myself rereading this book a number of times and I think I will reread it. I want to own this book and I really look forward to anything else that Fitzpatrick publishes. As I said before she does have a saga out called Hush, Hush so if you read this and want more there is four more books. I would however, like to say something. Ladies and gentlemen, please if you are going out to a bar or a club or wherever it may be. Please be safe, do not accept that drink from a complete stranger that is "total hot", sometimes they might not be a stranger. If you accept the drink and within a few sips you taste anything salty, put the drink down. Date-rape drug has a salty taste to it. Don't leave your drink unattended either. There is nothing wrong with wanting to have fun, just be safe about it.

Swept Up by Kayla Dawn Thomas

If you remember in my November and December book haul post, I ranted slightly about how I was given two ebooks that I wasn't able to get to work for my Kindle app. This was one of them, though Thomas was kind enough to send me a actual print copy for me to read. I won* the copy from attending a book launch party. Thomas does have a few other books written, and as far as it looks Swept Up is a stand-alone.

Web's still mending a broken heart, and likes to be alone. So being a street sweeper on the night shift is an ideal job. His mother however, wants grandchildren and his sister tries to hook him up with anyone she can. It doesn't help that the women that she does pair him with aren't the brightest. All of that and the wonderful late night excitement that can happen, Web has enough going on in his life, but nothing prepares him for the moment when a woman stumbles in front of his sweeper. Kara doesn't know how to be herself, and this lead to a lifetime of poor decisions. Hitting the lowest of the low she moves in with her best friend and her husband. They help her get a job teaching English at Basil State University. She almost has everything put together until one night of whiskey nearly sends everything back into the ground.

I am so used to fantasy, mythical creatures, abnormal problems that involve supernatural creatures, that when reading Swept Up it felt pretty refreshing. It's about two humans in humanly situations. A few chapters into this I kept asking myself "wait...how's this going to work?" Then it all made sense once we got a little background on Web. I found that I connected with Kara a lot more then I thought I would, especially more toward the end. I like that Kara is portrayed as not having it all together, and it takes something to completely override everything for her to get her life completely together. Sometimes it isn't until something very precious is in the picture that straightens you out. I also liked that Kara and Web's relationship isn't that of a "typical" one that you find in other books. I laughed a lot thanks to Kara and a few of the predicaments that she would get into, especially the bull ride. I found Web to be endearing, which is always good, his sister Celeste was a hoot too, along with a few of his friends. Pretty much everyone had me laughing.

The one thing that bugged me was Web's past and how it tied into the book. I predicted what was going to happen because of it. Did it ruin the book for me? Not at all. I was kept interested throughout the whole book. I wanted to know what his actions where going to be because of his past. There where a couple of parts that seemed to drag on a bit for me but once things picked back up I didn't mind the down time of them. These where the only things that bugged me and they were easily dismissible.

I completely recommend this to everyone who thinks they would be interested in it. I obviously own the book, and I can see myself rereading Swept Up a few times, if not more. I really enjoyed reading Thomas's book, and I can see myself going for her other books. I do think there are people who are not going to like this book just because it isn't for them, and that's perfectly okay. I don't see a problem with teens reading Swept Up, there are two "grown up" spots but they don't last more than a page. There is much worse that a teen could accidentally pick up.

I Kissed a Zombie, and I liked It by Adam Selzer

This is a stand-alone book by Selzer, who does have a number of other books published. I honestly don't know how this review is going to turn out at the moment of typing this. I really hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings. I don't intend to, and this is my honest thoughts and feelings of this book. If you loved or liked this book there is not a thing wrong with that.

Uniquely named Algonquin (Ali) Rhodes is the high school newspaper's music critic. While reviewing a gig she gets awestruck by a singer named Doug. He looks goth, and not a fake kind of goth. They are introduced after he gets done singing, and upon a little questioning he talks very quietly almost like a whisper. Once they are dating, Ali finds herself falling hard and because of this she doesn't notice a few things about Doug. He doesn't change his clothes, his head is slightly shaped differently, and he really doesn't speak. It isn't until a classmate points out the obvious for Ali, that it all comes crashing down. Doug isn't exactly a goth, he's a zombie. Seeing things in a new light, Ali learns that zombies are really hard to get rid of. Not to mention the vampires, that are practically like the mafia, don't appreciate Ali's critique that makes fun of the band.

I loved Ali's full name, Algonquin. I thought it was really different and I haven't read any other book with that name for any character. I like her whit for the most part and I really wish that she would have used her brain a little more than she did. I like that vampires, werewolves, and zombies are known and how that came to be. Obviously not all zombies are mindless because Doug is up and walking without moaning "brains". He's alive because he drinks embalming fluid to keep him going, where as if he doesn't he will turn to dust which is what happened with most of the other zombies. I love the message at the end the "don't take life for granted". I think a lot of younger people do do this and don't realize that you won't have your younger years forever. Don't just waste it away, enjoy it, because eventually you won't be able to. The vampires straight out annoyed me but in a good way, it's been a while since I have read a book where the main character doesn't like them. I also like the point that gets made of, get your head out of your S.O. butt and back into your life. Your life cannot just stop because your boyfriend or girlfriend is there. You have to live for yourself. I chuckled just a couple of times, I wish I had more because this book had a lot of potential for it, but it just didn't happen.

Now, this is the part where I hope not to offend anyone. For this being a younger young adult novel I can see where some of this is relevant, but for the most part I found it annoying. Ali lets herself be blinded over the fact that Doug sings a few songs that she loves and he really puts some emotion behind his singing. She blatantly ignores the very, very obvious fact that Doug is a zombie. Then once she finds out she decides to break up with him but never gets around to it. She decides to break up with him over a few things; him not texting her back that very moment, him not telling her that he is a zombie the very moment that they met, and a few others. Also along the lines of her not realizing that he is a zombie, Megamart are the people who made the zombies rise and used them as slaves. Doug takes her to Megamart to specifically pick up his medication. She then goes into this rant about Megamart, and reveals a few things that all point to Doug being a zombie. Yet it still didn't click for her. For a girl with a head on her shoulders she sure as hell let one thing knock it off. I really didn't see a plot to this book. Live life fully? Don't take things for granted? Don't be an ice queen? What? My favorite annoyance is the sexual innuendos list. "We might have to do #7 from out list later." They hadn't been dating long and yet she is ready to go all out with him. Don't put this in a YA book. I really could go on about what annoyed me in this book but I won't.

I can see this being a younger adult novel, it's small, and it's a quick read. I think younger girls especially need to see how dumb it can look for them to be completely and utterly wrapped up in their S.O. It took for Ali to see how others where acting, before she realized that she was doing the same, and it looked bad. There is nothing wrong with being in love, just don't make it the end all be all when you are still so young . I liked a few of the messages but overall this book annoyed me and made me want to hit my head against the wall. If I saw this book for sale I most likely wouldn't get it. I recommend this book to those who have read this review and still want to read it but you have been warned.

Iron King by Julie Kagawa

I've been doing a lot of firsts lately. Iron King is the first book in the Iron Fey series by Kagawa. It was published back in 2010, I don't remember any hype with this book and I am wondering why there wasn't. It really deserved some sort of acknowledgment, then again maybe it did. I really am never up on the trends, but I don't mind.

Meghan's life has always been just slightly off. There's a secret about her that she doesn't even know. Her father disappeared right in front of her when she was six. She doesn't fit in at school and not really at home either. A dark stranger starts watching her from a distance, and her friend Robbie begins to get weirdly protective of her. Everything's about to change and Meghan sort of knows it. Though when things do change, she couldn't begin to imagine the whole of it. She's the daughter of a fairy king, and just one of the pawns in a war. Through many trials she learns that she will go as far as she can just to save someone dear to her, stop a evil that no one else dares to face, and possibly find love in someone who would probably rather see her dead.

I don't know where to begin...I love this book. I love fairies, mythical creatures, and everything that comes with it. The good and the bad. I love the characters, especially Gimalkin, Ethan reminds me of my nephew at that age so I took an immediate liking to him. Ash and Robbie/Puck took a little warming up to, but for the most part I like them. Robbie/Puck made me laugh on a number of occasions, but I did think he should have known better with a few incidences. *SPOILER-ALERT* Practically right away I knew that Meghan and Ash would end up liking each other in the end. Robbie/Puck is too much of a protector to really be a love interest.*SPOILER-ENDED* Meghan I found to be a little annoying at times, but I think that is more or less from everything that kept getting thrown her way. While reading I got a sense of Alice In Wonderland practically all the time. I believe it was even mentioned once. Which I don't have a problem with, I love Alice In Wonderland. This book also reminded me of the young adult friendly version of Karen Marie Moning's Fever series, with the Unseelie and the Seelie courts. Along with other similar connections. Also Shakespeare's A Midnight Summers Dream came into play all throughout the book, which I love Shakespeare so I was happy to read the connections.

As for what I didn't like, it was literally one thing after another. The group would take one step forward and five steps back. I understand that things have to be kept interesting for the reader, but I got really annoyed with this. With smaller things constantly happening, no real action happened until the end and even then it was over in a few pages. Yes, there where lots of little "battles" but the real main action was done and over in a blink, and quite simply too. I was really let down by this. I was expecting this big fight because the Iron King was played up to be this big bad guy and in the end it was a simple wham-bam done. I was kept interested, but after a while I kept reading to see if anything would be done by the end of the book. I really hope that things get better in the next book.

Despite the constant one thing after another, Iron King wasn't that bad of a book. I don't know if someone who doesn't like fairies as much as I do would say the same though. If it weren't for the characters I don't know if I would have finished it, they really made this book for me. I do recommend it, if you can deal with everything I ranted about, then read it. It's far from a bad book, it just could have been better in a way. I would like to own this book, but I think I will read the rest of the series to figure out if I want the whole thing or just certain books.

Wake by Lisa McMann

The first book in the Wake trilogy, and I wonder where the hype for it is? Or maybe I missed it? I am going to go with I missed the hype, because that's usually how it happens. I've had my eye on this trilogy for a little while now, and I have never been able to get the first book until now. I was warned by someone who has read these books to read them in order if I really don't want to spoil anything. I took the warning and I am glad I did. I hope you enjoy.

Seventeen-year old Janie has a lot on her plate, and being sucking into other people dreams isn't helping any. She's getting tired of it, and sadly has no one to talk to about it because honestly who wouldn't think she was crazy if they knew about it? She can't control it either and it doesn't matter what time of day it is, if someone is dreaming around her she is getting pulled into it. But the dream of a kid named Cabel, is different. He dreams of killing someone, but he also dreams of her.

To say I devoured this book is an understatement. I began reading at about 1AM and was half way through by 3:30AM. I slept, woke up, and read the rest of the book in just a hour and a half more. It was a very quick read for me but I think that has to do with how fast paced it was, for the most part. The pace did slow but never for very long, which I loved. It fit the book perfectly. In the POV of Janie, I find that she was very relatable, which is nice for a reader. Anyone who wasn't very privileged, had to work for their things, and almost an outcast could really relate to Janie. I feel if I can't 'connect' with one of the main characters, the book isn't that enjoyable. Unless the author does something amazing. I don't even know how to explain Cabel, he seems like a bad boy but that's just too stereotypical for him. *SPOILER-ALERT* I did not see him working under cover as a agent at his age coming. I had to read a couple of pages over just to be sure. Though in the end it made sense why and how he came to be in that position. *SPOILER-ENDED* I have never read a book before where a character has been drawn into anyone and everyone's dreams, so long as they are in close enough proximity, and awake. It was what drew me in in the first place when I picked it up a while ago, and read the back cover. I got annoyed with Janie and Cabel in the beginning and kept yelling at the book. It was good yelling, and I was cracking myself up.

Quite honestly I don't have any real complaints about Wake. I was upset by how fast I read it, and how small the book is compared to some of the other books I have read. I have a feeling that unless Ms. McMann makes some stereotypical moves for the next two book, I may just love them as well. Even with the shortness.

I loved this book to say the least. It is a great relaxed read for adults. I made my mom read it once I was done with Wake and she really liked it as well. I recommend this book to everyone of all ages, I personally don't see a problem with someone in 8th grade reading this. There are a couple of spots where Janie gets sucked into a sexual dream but even then it isn't nearly as bad as it could have been. I think I could reread Wake a few times before I would get tired of it. I don't own the book but I surely want to one day, as for the rest of the trilogy, that remains to be seen.

Command Me by Geneva Lee

Command Me is the first book in The Royals saga by Geneva Lee. I'm going to get this out of the way here and now. This is not a book for those under 18, if mature enough I would say 16 is the youngest. There are hot and heavy sex scenes and it is just going to continue from here in the books to come. If you do not like BDSM related sex, don't read. You've been warned. Also this book doesn't come with the usual summary for a book. So I will do what I don't like to and use what is given (but I do like what was given!). As another little note this book was once called For King and Country so if it sounds familiar it just may be.

When he kissed me, I was shocked. He was a stranger and still so familiar. It wasn't until I woke up to my picture splashed on the cover of tabloids that I realized I knew who he was. Prince Alexander of Cambridge. Royal bad boy. Exiled heir to the throne. He isn't Prince Charming. He's controlling. He's demanding. He's dangerous. And I can't say no to him. We both have secrets—secrets that could tear us apart or drive us closer together—and as the paparazzi exposes each one, I have to decide just how far I'm willing to go for King and Country.

I like this. I like this a lot. Alexander or X, is a very alluring character and I can see why. He's a bad boy and a girl goes through her streak of wanting to tame a bad boy or ride along with him. Only this bad boy is a royal. Clare is our other main character, and she's a very likeable but sometimes an annoying character. Then again so is X. Their relationship is one filled with bumps and trials. I think they could have worked through them a little better, but hey sex is sex and why fight it when it's good? I liked the aspect that everything wasn't great in their relationship. Sometimes I find it a little too good to be true when there is nothing wrong between two people. Especially two people like Clare and X. The story line kept me interested for the most part. X isn't a pampered prince, he has his own deeply scarring troubles. And Clare has her head on her shoulders (for the most part), she went to college and furthered herself. I won't lie, the chemistry between X and Clare is hot, and X is a hot man. As far as lesser but equally important characters, Edward was a doll and I can see a lot of readers liking him. I can also see people wanting to smack Pepper as I did, but every book has to have that one character who you love to hate.

I must say with as much as I did like this book, I did find quite a few things annoying. There where predictable points throughout the book. Clare fell into lusting after X very quickly. Don't get me wrong, lusting after someone is fine, but when they warn you that they only want sex and they don't want a relationship, Don't. Get. Attached. You were told sex only, no relationship. Why are you letting yourself get attached so you can get hurt later? *MINI-RANT* Second, he is a flippen' royal, she is a commoner. It. Isn't. Going. To. Work. It doesn't matter what sort of royal and what sort of commoner, it has never been allowed so why now? Especially when they haven't known each other for very long, and especially after Clare saw how everyone treated her. I would be asking myself if I really wanted to be with someone who was with me just to piss off their family and the person their family is expecting them to get married to. Yeah he doesn't like his betrothed but still, Clare is a commoner. A pompous king isn't going to let that happen.*MINI-RANT OVER* Also there is a cliffhanger ending which always drives me insane, even more so with this book because I really want to know how Lee is going to take this. I think I already know how things are going to end, but I don't want to spoil it.

I enjoyed this book more than I didn't, cliffhanger ending and all. I am really hoping that Lee doesn't take some of the more run of the mill paths when it comes to romance, bad boys and everything else. I recommend this book, but I do put a warning on it, which was mentioned in the very beginning of this review. I would also like to say that this isn't going to be everyone's ideal book. Some are going to think it is complete rubbish but we are all entitled to our opinions. I sort of own this book. I did get my copy for free from amazon, but I don't really count ebooks as "real" books. That's just me, I prefer a hard copy in my hands. The second book is out but that is not free. I will review it when ever I get it and read it.
